Honiara Daily

Living in a place like Honiara one gets to see times changing: you see it in people. Those closest to you and strangers alike. You can also feel many emotions: you feel it in relationships. Those most personal and initmate as well as of others you haven’t met but observe from behind those dusty louvres and  window nets. This is a small town. Nothing is too private. Everything is just a story waiting to be revealed. If there is a secret. It will be a secret. Shared among everyone, passed from one to another in quiet whisper. That is secret enough. Gossip enough. Gossips. Burning like those candles in the scattered neighbourhood betelnut markets. Slipping into evening story story like those cool evening breeze we love so much in this town.

In the back of our mind we all hope for something better. Something much more. Some escapism. While those pirated DVD Hollywood movie is not enough to distort our realities, maybe something more poisonous. Like alcohol. Is that why I hear those screams in the middle of the night? Walls banging and things breaking when the world should have been sleeping peacefully. If the night can bring all these, should I pray and wait for morning before I pack my bags to walkagain  the road to public bus stops. To see and feel again among the wave of people coming out of their shells and battling alongside me in this war of daily survival…….You all know this is just to fill in the gap. Feeling a bit poet writer lost today.

Lokol Furnitures

Ok I know these photos are coming in late, but I tell you if there is one thing that I can never get enough of its Local Cane Furnitures. One of the most prominent local cane furniture Solcane have some of the most spectacular display during the tradeshow. I am currently finding inspirations in local furnitures so that I can also decorate and buy some myself when the pocket permits. For now Iam snapping at furntitures whenever I have the chance…some of the nice ones I like are these:

Cane Rattan type chairs...an almost common and favorite of most Honiara Homes.

Post Show “Fever”

Filed under: Solomon Islands — tahlee @ 1:05 am

First of allapologise for not  putting up any new post the past couple of weeks. As you may have heard there was a mysterious flu like symptom that hit town right after the recent Tradeshow. Everybody who was ever there ( and I think this is almost everyone who were in town then) got struck down off their trousers with bomb cough, high fever, sniffling noises, body pain, headache and belly aches. Man! I was down for the whole of last week! I couldnt stand up. Laid down the whole time cursing the trade show. There wasn’t any real direct link with the tradeshow and the fever that swept Honiara afterwards , but then the doctors got worried because there were almost 100 cases everyday at the No.9 refereal hospital and all with similar symptons. The only advice they gave, after straining medical resources was: drink plenty of water and get enough panadol! In this age of science and advance medicine. I go for rest. Just rest of the whole body. Slumber. Zero Physical. It works great. So now that I have recovered and I’m back at the office strolling through Honiara again. We do have some catching up to do so…tune in for more…
