4 ways to Get Weekdays Inspiration in Honiara
These are just four ways (I swear there are many, but I just can’t think of them at the moment) to at least find some inspiration in Honiara’s crowded, hot, slow, electricity cut prone and frustrating office hours.
4. Good Night Sleep
Obvious. I hear everyone say but one of Honiaras’ most favorite late evening hobbie is sitting down and telling stories on and on and on regardless of time. It is common to see groups of people sitting down together in front of houses, road sides and betel nut vendors along urban streets just telling stories. This is a recreational activity most people employed or not get hooked on. While this is also a source for inspirations, the earliest time if one can get away from these kinds of groups is 11pm, nearly Midnight. So get a good night rest, stay away from excess betelnut chewing and hit the sack before 10pm. One will feel fresh and ready to tackle the day head first instead of bowing to the computer monitor half the day.
3. Walk to Office with Friends
Honiara is a small town. Despite short distances from urban residences to office and commercial section of the town most people prefer to jump in the towns’ main public transport of mini buses and taxi to get to work. While this is a highly convinient way to get to work on time, walking together with friends to the office is a much more relax, genuine sharing and reflecting way to spend the small time before business hour starts. Honiara is calmer during early mornings before 8am when the rush hour to work starts. So if you follow No.4, you can wake up early and organise a walktogether to work with people you like. If you prefer your own company while walking to work, do so there is no rule, as long as doing so will bring some good thoughts and ideas.
2. Morning exercise
Almost similar to No.3 except exercise is involved. To the Western world walking to the office is exercising in many forms. In Honiara its only pleasure. The fact that people you like are all together is happiness. Exercising is not much overrated here, but the excuse to be up early when most people are still sleeping is kind of pleasing. Almost like keeping sweet secrets as you tip toed around the house one minute and the next your legs thump along the road with your heart and head beating as one. It gives a sense of purpose and self reflection which are often also times for rising inspirations to creep in.
1. Get out of town for lunch
This is by the far my most favorite way to get inspiration in Honiara during weekdays. Honiara town is situated in a way that the sea ( we are in an island for Islands sake!) can be forgotten. Drive about seven minutes or so West along the only road in town and there the sea and beaches will come alive. No office buildings, cars, traffic, or crowd in these parts. There are fruits, coconut drinks and barbequed or traditionally hot stone cooked food vendors right along the road. So hire or get a vehicle, go by yourself or take someone nice, buy food, find nice beach and shade spend one hour there relax and then drive back to the office. Nothing beats getting some fresh air and watching the ocean to make one high on inspirations .
Wow!! it sounds like paradise to me despite the ongoing heat and the dusty roads…what should people expect from the citizen’s attitude.

Wow. tali I never thought you had it in you. It is very comforting to read that obstacles and flaws can be ommited and the best things are the only things that matters. but I do sense an exageration or …what?
